about

Noa Jansma, 1996, Amsterdam

"Sometimes it feels like everyone in the world has read the manual of life, but I just missed the briefing.” This hypothesis, and the probability that everyone feels this way, excites and frees me to openly explore seemingly fixed infrastructures and rusted power-dynamics.

Using multi-media techniques I use design to create methodologies that research our interrelationship to the more-than-human world. This results in projects wherein I nudge conversation about the connection between a.o. food, capitalism, ecological awareness, colonialism, urban-rural-dynamics and the (institutional) infrastructures around these themes. This is translated in various media ranging from ex. video installations, photography, educational programs or applepies.

My work have been internationally exhibited in places such as C/O Berlin, Les Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles, Dutch Design Week, Madrid Design week, Fabrica Italia, Salone Del Mobile Milano, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Het Nieuwe Instituut.
It has been included in several publications and won awards such as the Gouden Kalf Interactive and the Dutch Design Award 2022.
I have given lectures around the topic of my projects and it has had a wide ranging press coverage.
